President Bajram Begaj decorates Nikolle Lesin with the title of 'Grand

The President of the Republic Bajram Begaj today decorated the well-known journalist Nikolle Lesi with the title "Grand Master".

This special tribute to the founder of one of the most important newspapers of the time, the first independent newspaper, "Koha őna", is precisely related to its 33rd anniversary.

During his speech, Nikollë Lesi said that he shared this title with all those who contributed to the newspaper "Koha nõna".

President Begaj thanked the publisher for the contribution to the emancipation of the Albanian society through the newspaper that he created and grew with a lot of work and sacrifice.

"Dear attendees! We are here today to present the title of "Grand Master" to the successful journalist, leader and publisher, Nikollë Lesi. This title, signed by me a few months ago, was not withdrawn by Mr. Lesi. Through incomparable modesty, he asked to withdraw the title on the 33rd anniversary of the "Koha Jonë" newspaper, precisely on May 11. As he told me, this title goes to the contribution, passion, and professionalism of all those who have contributed and worked with him. They have kept idealism and passion with them since that time, since at all times these are values that should accompany professionalism and impartiality in telling the truth. This is the only way they have managed to be influential factors. of public opinion and deserve to be the Fourth Power. Happy 33rd anniversary of Our Time! Happy Nikolle Lesi!" , said Begaj.

The newspaper "Koha Jonë" is the first independent and private newspaper in Albania. It started publishing once a week as a local newspaper of the district of Lezha, turning within a year into a sought-after newspaper, where in 1994 it became the largest daily newspaper in Albania and reached its peak in the events of the year 1997 in 82 thousand copies sold per day.

It faced many vicissitudes and difficulties during the years of its existence, since the burning of the newsroom, the arrest of journalists and the torture of one of them, Zamir Duke, who passed away a few weeks ago.
