The President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, participated in the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit, held in Kiev, as well as in the ceremonies on the occasion of Ukraine's Statehood Day.
During the summit, the head of state reaffirmed Albania's support for Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity, recovery and European integration.
"Albania has been clear and unwavering in its support for Ukraine. We stand in support of your independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within your internationally recognized borders. We also support the achievement of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace that respects the United Nations Charter, international law and the legitimate rights of the Ukrainian people," declared President Begaj.
In his speech, the head of state emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation for security and stability in the face of common threats, supporting the reconstruction of Ukraine and advancing its European integration, describing the enlargement of the European Union as a strategic investment for peace and stability.
In the presence of the leaders of Southeast European countries and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Begaj stated that support for Ukraine must be accompanied by concrete actions.
"Our support, emphasized President Begaj, must go beyond declarations. It must be translated into practical cooperation. This is why today's Summit is important. It allows us to strengthen political coordination, deepen regional solidarity and identify concrete areas for joint action," said the President.
The summit ended with a joint statement, where the leaders reaffirmed their support for Ukraine and described its security as part of the security of the entire European continent.
During the ceremonies for Ukraine's Statehood Day, President Begaj praised the resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of war.
"On this solemn day, let us also honor the courage of the Ukrainian people - soldiers, civilians, families, doctors, teachers, rescuers and volunteers, who continue to demonstrate extraordinary strength in the face of suffering. Their resilience is an inspiration to all who believe in freedom and justice," said the President of the Republic.
As part of his visit to Kiev, Begaj also held a one-on-one meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, support for Ukraine in the process of recovery, security and economic development, as well as the possibility of signing new agreements.
At the end of the meeting, President Begaj reconfirmed Albania's full solidarity with Ukraine and the commitment to further strengthening relations between the two countries.
