The division of committees is expected to bring strong debates at the constitutive session on September 12th...

The ruling majority seems to be planning a total restructuring of the parliamentary committees. While a few days ago there was talk of splitting the Committee on Productive Activities and adding the "Xhafaj" committee, the plan is deeper.

The majority intends to make several divisions and mergers of committees. For example, the Foreign Affairs Committee will merge with the European Integration Committee. The latter has historically been led by the opposition and has been headed by influential figures such as Majlinda Bregu in the past and now Jorida Tabaku. But it will no longer exist and the new committee will be led by the Socialist Party.

Meanwhile, there will be a division of the Laws and Human Rights Committee. It will be divided into the Laws Committee and the Committee on Public Administration and Human Rights. The latter is expected to be led by the opposition.

The draft foresees that the 11 permanent parliamentary committees will be divided in this way: 7 committees will be led by the majority, while 4 by the opposition. The latter is expected to have committees with lower weight, which will likely include the Media Committee, the Human Rights Committee, the Health Committee and one of the committees arising from the Productive Activity. The latter will include: the Committee on Agriculture; the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Infrastructure, Environment and Digitalization.

But the SP seems to have drafted the plan itself, without any consultation with the opposition, which will bring strong clashes next week. According to the plan, the constitution of the Assembly will take place on September 12, where the oath of the deputies and the division of the committees will take place.
