The deputy of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, has described the situation of pensioners in Albania as critical.
She calls for pensioners to be provided with better conditions and stronger economic support, stressing that this is not an issue that can be resolved with political rhetoric, but requires will and bold decisions to support the elderly.
" Finally, pensions have become a matter of the day due to the government's need to justify that it could not increase pensions, although expenses continue to increase in all forms. Pensioners are feeling the effects of the failed reform of 2015. The number of pensioners has reached 30% and the pension scheme has not been effective. The decline of the active work force, where 40% have left, has placed the foundation of the pension scheme in a very big question mark. The increase in prices has not been accompanied by an increase in pensions, but there has been a minimal indexation that has made it impossible for them to survive ," said Tabaku.
Through a video message on social networks, Tabaku invites pensioners to ask the socialist deputies: "What do your parents buy you with 20 lek a day?".
She stated that this issue should not be treated politically, as the increased prices affect both the left and the right.
" Increased prices are paid by both the left and the right. There is absolutely no difference. With 20 lek a day, today you can't buy a bus ticket or half a coffee, you can no longer cover the needs that pensioners have today, such as medicine, food or other vital products , "said Tabaku.
