The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, stated that the Government has decided to subsidize all public transport associations with 50 lek for each liter of diesel, as a measure to cope with the increase in fuel prices.

After the Government meeting, during communication with journalists, the minister announced that the subsidy will be extended to urban, intercity and suburban transport operators.

"In the Government meeting, we passed several acts of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy. An important act is the one taken within the framework of the subsidy measures that the Albanian Government has undertaken during the hydrocarbon crisis for urban, intercity and suburban transport," he declared.

Karakaçi recalled that about a month ago, a meeting was held with transport associations, representatives of the municipality and the Ministry of Economy, where the concerns and problems of the sector were discussed.

"At that time, we promised that there would be a subsidy measure and it has now been approved. It is a compensation of 50 lek per liter for all public transport companies," said Karakaçi.

According to the minister, the subsidy will be applied retroactively from March, the period when the effects of the fuel price crisis began to be felt.

"Another good news is that we will start this subsidy measure as of March, when the effects of the crisis began. In this sense, we have fulfilled a commitment according to agreements with interest groups," said Karakaçi.
