The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, participated in the presentation of the DP's program for culture, where he raised harsh accusations against the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama, calling the mistreatment of cultural heritage in Albania unacceptable.
In his speech, Berisha denounced recent developments in the field of culture, citing efforts to destroy cultural and heritage structures.
"Today the book is taxed mercilessly. The museum is closed in quotation marks for reconstruction, with the aim of stealing 10-12 million euros and building a tower in its courtyard," declared Berisha, adding that this is an irresponsible act that aims for financial gain and severely damages Albania's cultural heritage.
The leader of the Democratic Party also recalled the efforts of artists to protect the National Theater, describing its demolition as an unprecedented act aimed at preserving cultural heritage.
He emphasized that the long civic protest, which was one of the longest in the history of Albania, showed the commitment and effort of artists and citizens to protect an important value of Albanian culture.
"Edi Rama is the real author of the theater's demolition ," Berisha said, accusing government authorities of violating citizens' rights and putting one of the country's most important cultural institutions out of use.
