Prime Minister Edi Rama has categorically denied any possibility of resignation, the creation of a caretaker government or the holding of early elections, despite repeated demands from the opposition, which has united in a common front against him.
"What is this talk, I'm going to resign? We won 83 mandates in June, or have you forgotten?" Rama said at the end-of-year conference, emphasizing that the government he leads has full legitimacy and there is no political or institutional reason to leave office.
He mocked the opposition's demands and emphasized the country's international achievements during 2025. "Is this a question that the opposition asks or are you asking it for the public's interest? I don't believe the public asks this question at all. This year is Albania's most successful year, and this success was not brought about by time, but by this government," Rama said.
The Prime Minister cited the opening of negotiation chapters with the EU and the European summit held in Tirana as evidence of international support. He added: “The European Commission does not forgive corrupt countries, not even if we were one tenth of what the ‘political and media pots’ say. Never.”

Albania has opened all chapters of negotiations for membership in the European Union. Albania is the country where this year that we are closing, the entire democratic political Europe gathered in Skanderbeg Square. They came to a corrupt country, do you think? No. No. But they didn't take the opinion of 700 political and media pots when they came. That's true, that's true. What do you think? The European Commission forgives a country that would not be what the pots say, but would be a tenth of this. Never. Never. Never. And I have always said and I repeat, if this process is happening today, it is primarily the merit of this political force. You have seen the reactions of others when it affects you, when your hair is touched, what they say. If you have never heard from me, you will never hear, not insults and accusations, but not even uh, uh, sentences that go towards attacking the reputation and even uh, pressure and threats of these bodies. You have never heard it. This is an inevitable, necessary process, which has all its problems and that's it. What is this talk, will I resign? Whatever... We received 83 mandates in June, or have you forgotten?
