In the conditions where we have a not-so-exceptional situation in Tirana, as leadership has been lacking for quite some time, we have completely reorganized ourselves, placing the deputies in an even more demanding position, to pursue the problems in the territory.
Prime Minister Edi Rama returned to the 'Eye to Eye' column on Monday morning, focusing on the action to free up public spaces.
Rama has particularly stopped in Tirana, where since February, due to the arrest of Erion Veliaj by SPAK, the capital has been run by a female mayor. This situation, according to Rama, is extraordinary. But the Prime Minister has claimed that he is filling this gap with the engagement of MPs on the ground.
A commentator asked Rama why the action did not take place before May 11, while the Prime Minister said that for the first time he was leading the Tirana electoral team, which noted the great transformations that the territory has undergone in a positive way, but also negative ones, in terms of expansion, of the expansion of borders from businesses to public spaces.
"I crossed into territories that I had not crossed for a long time. We have not been comfortable, but a few days after the end of the elections that marked an absolute record, which are a very big responsibility, we discussed returning to the territory, to see what concerns the community has. In this context, the SP deputies have been in the territory continuously in Tirana, Vlora, Durrës and several large cities of the country to meet again with the community.
"In the conditions where we have a not-so-exceptional situation in Tirana, as leadership has been lacking for quite some time, we have completely reorganized ourselves, placing the MPs in an even more demanding position, to pursue the problems in the territory," said Rama.
According to him, one of the community's ongoing demands has been the liberation of public spaces.
"I'm starting where some of the critics get caught up in why now, I'm starting with Xenophon who says why now and not then, in the election. In these elections I was part of the Tirana team in these elections, for the first time, unlike other elections. And I had a long series of meetings in Tirana, I was able to see and pass through different territories of Tirana that I hadn't seen in a long time.
And I noticed two things that impressed me, first, the major and important changes that Tirana has undergone, which in previous times were far from the even simpler parameters of urbanization and negative, of an expansion, of borders, of public spaces, which I have heard repeatedly from the citizens of Tirana. This was also the basis of a concern.
As you have noticed, a few days after that result that was extraordinary, an absolute record, which comes with a very great responsibility, it made us return to the territories, to see what concerns the community has, in those that we have heard little about. So the SP deputies have been continuously on the ground, in Tirana, Vlora, where I have been myself, Durrës, to meet again with the community.
"In the conditions we have had in Tirana, it is an unusual situation in practice, as it lacks direction, not for a short time, but especially for a capital city," Rama said.
