Prime Minister Rama announced that from January 1, pensions will be increased for all citizens, with additional benefits for old-age, disability and family pensions.
The leader of the 'Together Movement' party, Arlind Qori, said that pensions in Albania are low. He said that every promise made by Rama is manipulation, while emphasizing that this increase is only for the minority who have high pensions.
"This was an attempt by Rama to throw ashes in the eyes of pensioners. In 2026, the pension increase will practically be 2 thousand old lek per month. According to the law, only those who have 38 years of work receive a full pension, and in Albania only a minority have 38 years of insured work, all the others do not even have half of those years of work. And the government promises an increase for that minority who have high pensions.
"So those who will receive more are those who have a higher pension. The others will receive a lower pension increase. So this is the opposite of the bonus, since the bonus gave more money to those who had low pensions and less to those who had high ones. Rama said in the campaign that the minimum pension will go to 200 thousand lek and now Rama refuses to talk about the minimum pension, which is the pension that most pensioners in Albania receive. Everything Rama promises is manipulation," he said.
Qori stated that pensions in Albania are low and not enough for a pensioner to live on.
"Informality at work is an open wound that continues to be deep. I don't know what Rama has done in these years about this. But in Albania pensions are low, where emigration, as well as informality, are among the factors. We have an average pension of 180 euros, which practically doesn't cost that much money to eat. While it should be somewhere around 220 euros. The increase depending on the category of pensioners will be 5 to 8 percent, which is ridiculous, if you say I will give a pensioner 6 or 7 thousand old lek per month. If the pensioners who receive the minimum pension today, if they didn't have family members to help them, they would be begging on the streets," he told "Report TV".
