Will there be an analysis within the DP about the defeat on May 11?
The OSCE-ODIHR has today published its final report on the May 11 elections, reopening not only the debate on the management of the elections, but also on the situation in the DP.
The Democratic Party and its coalition, the "Greater Albania Alliance," suffered a heavy defeat in the May 11 elections. The difference between Sali Berisha's Democrats and Edi Rama's Socialists is over 30 parliamentary seats in favor of the SP, or over 250,000 votes in favor of the left.
Berisha does not recognize the elections, claiming that they were stolen and manipulated. Through this alibi he has avoided being removed from the leadership of the DP. When he removed Basha, Berisha changed an article he had introduced, which allowed the leader to run for re-election.
To be more precise, it is point 8 of Article 46, which Berisha himself amended. It states: “ If, after the announcement of the results of the general elections for the Assembly, the Party does not result in a winning governing force, the mandate ends immediately and automatically due to the Statute. In this case, the chairman whose mandate ends is not allowed to run in the subsequent elections for party chairman .”
And this article that Berisha himself proposed, approved, and debated for a long time, even with his own people, to make it part of the statute, has not been implemented so far.
The alibi of Sali Berisha and his circle was that the analysis within the DP to determine responsibilities would be done after the ODIHR report was released. The report was released today and there is no change from the previous one.
ODIHR has found endless irregularities, but there are also other elements that the left reads positively. Now that this report has come out and the election debate is over, the question arises: what will Berisha do now? Will we have an analysis to share responsibilities, because if the argument continues that "they stole our elections", we will still have Rama as prime minister after 4 years.
Critical voices have increased. Just two days ago, Besart Xhaferri made a strong statement. He stated that the rhetoric that the 2025 elections were stolen must be proven by Berisha; otherwise, he can no longer lead the opposition.
" Berisha has not repeated the elections, the cause of his electoral farce must continue. If the elections are not repeated, Berisha must leave the leadership within 2026. If Berisha does not leave, I will continue the mission within the DP, but I will not wage war within the party. This, since the confrontation within the party has a kind of hierarchy, is not my turn ," said the MP.
Let's see how the situation in the DP will be, but Berisha is making it clear that he has no intention of leaving. In the spring we will have elections for the mayor and he is making it clear that he will run for re-election. Me sa duket ODHIR priti derisa te mbaronte afati I deklarimit te financimit te fushatave dhe aty u pa qe shume perfshi ketu me sa duket dhe monstren nongrata nuk kane raportuar shpenzimet. Keshtu qe ASPAKU duhet ta therresi tani monstren dhe ta detyroje ose hetoje kontraten e LaCivites.
