Co-chair of the Territorial Reform Commission, Luciano Boçi, stated that the commission is holding hearings in several regions of the country to gather citizens' concerns and proposals regarding territorial reform.
According to him, in many areas citizens are demanding the creation or preservation of existing municipalities, arguing that only in this way can basic services be provided to local communities.
Boçi also commented on the statements of Mayor Adriatik Zotkaj, which he described as direct and unusual for a representative of the majority.
" Mr. Zotkaj has been tough. He has expressed many truths, which rarely happens in our political environments, especially when they come from the majority. He has expressed the failure of the 2014 reform and has demanded that Poliçan remain as a separate municipality.
We are holding hearings on the territorial reform in several districts. Citizens are demanding the creation of their own municipalities and the provision of services. Mr. Zotkaj has been harsh. He has expressed many truths in fact, which rarely happen in our political environments, so that you would think that they come from the majority. He has expressed the failure of the 2014 reform and has demanded that Poliçan remain as a separate municipality. These voices have also been added by several municipalities that are considered small and medium-sized. If the merger of the municipality occurs, services will be jeopardized and citizens will leave. Albania risks losing its youthfulness, and is at risk of depopulation. Our mission is to stop depopulation. The government decides that it must be given full powers, but also finances. Territorial reform also includes administration. ” , he said on News 24.
