The member of the official DP Presidency, Fitim Zekthi, has recently spoken about the situation in the Democratic Party and the elections of July 29, where Lulzim Basha was re-elected as the head of the DP.
Zekthi said that Basha at the head of the DP will produce an alternative opposition, together with the help of internationals. Regarding the crisis within the Democratic Party, it was stated that the rule of law has been missing, at least since March 21, which marks the resignation of Basha and the non-conduct of elections within the party.
"My vote was for Gjergj Hani, but I knew it would go that way. The process, not just the election, was important. The result for Basha was expected. Regarding the process it was regular. A political party must have three things, if it does not have one of them it is useless. There must be a leader, structure, ideology and political intent. From March 2021 and until now, there has not been a chairman. DP had no hierarchy, the presidency barely functioned and so did the Council. The PD had no goal, as it has been in a civil war for 1 and a half years.
The essence of the crisis in Albania is politics, which has turned it into a country where the law rules less and less everywhere. Today, politics is in a worse state as the old politicians vegetated. The old political elite, organized crime and clientelistic business are the three main elements of this political situation.
Basha was part of this elite and government with this policy. He was the political son of the father of politics. In 2021, Basha took a different stance. At this moment he went out of the elite.
The fact that this total war shows that there is power in the media, in clientelistic business and in organized crime. The elite, business and organized crime, this tirade knows that the danger is an opposition party in alliance with the EU.
Basha will produce the alternative opposition, but in this regime votes are bought. International pressure and judicial reform will change the situation. Faced with a regime it cannot win, but without an alternative we have nothing to talk about. So, SPAK will do its own thing and the internationals will intervene, so that the elite will fall", Zekthi told News24.
