Vote recount in Tirana, Myslim Murrizi: Hold your breath, people, and don't

Myslim Murrizi, one of the most active candidates in the May 11 elections, reacted immediately after the decision of the Complaints and Sanctions Commission (KAS) to recount all votes in the Tirana District.

In a reaction on social media, Murrizi welcomed the decision, calling it the right step to guarantee transparency and honesty, but also raised serious concerns about the way the votes of open list candidates were handled. He accused the parties of hijacking the process through the appointment of political counters and demanded a review of every contested vote.

Full post

I welcome today's decision by the KAS to recount all votes in the Tirana District, both for political entities but especially for the preferential votes of the 37 open list candidates.

Respect for Mr. Ilir Alimehmeti and for every other candidate who insisted on a recount, so that at least for the first time each of us can be calm and clear with ourselves about every vote we received.

Given that all commissioners, counters, and observers at every polling center or counting table in every CEAZ were appointed by the party and not by the open list candidates, this shows that the trust of almost all candidates in political counters was close to zero.

I very much hope that every vote that clearly expresses the will of the voters, who voted for number 1 DP and a candidate from the open list of the DP, but placed the voting sign at the end of the name – as has usually been the case in majority voting – and not at the beginning of the name, and which were considered invalid votes (about 18,000 such votes in the Tirana District), will be carefully reviewed. I hope that the DP will receive its 14th mandate, and this requires special care and persistence from the DP representatives in the CEC during the recount.

Many thanks also to Mr. Asllan Dogjani for the care he showed for my votes in a box that turned out to be for Peza e Madhe – and the same care was shown in the 133 boxes counted in Kamëz and Paskuqan, because in Peza I'm worried that they might have confused me with Myslym Peza (haha).

Apart from Vora and Unit No. 10, where voting was done electronically, I did not have any observers in any of the 18 CEAZs in the Tirana Region, because the counters appoint the "leaders".

Now, after this excellent decision by the CAS, let's wait and see.

Which, according to Shakohoxha, means: Hold your breath, people, and don't get excited prematurely.
