Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has reacted to the police siege and the interruption of the News24 television signal, describing this action as an "act of executioner against free speech."
According to Berisha, the interruption of News24's signal on August 11, 2025 represents an act of primitive revenge against one of the main sources of independent information in Albania.
Berisha emphasizes that Rama is trying to protect himself from unbiased news, open debates and courageous investigations by News24 journalists about his and ministers' connections to crime, drugs and corruption. He recalls that after the closure of Agon Channel and the confiscation of Ora News, this is the third television station that Rama is trying to eliminate, as he has not been able to buy or control it.
The Democratic Party expresses full solidarity with the journalists and employees of News24 and strongly condemns this “primitive act of revenge by the executioner of free speech.” It demands the immediate removal of police forces from the television building and the restoration of the signal.
The DP also calls on international organizations and institutions protecting freedom of expression to condemn this action and demand the urgent restoration of News24's signal, describing Edi Rama as "the head of the first and only narco-state in Europe."
