"Price increases without transparency", Alimehmeti: Evis Sala

Democratic Party MP Ilir Alimehmeti has denounced the dire situation in the pharmaceutical market, stating that government intervention in drug prices has brought chaos and is directly harming patients.

"There is an even bigger problem for the sick. Whoever has a sick person at home, the pharmaceutical market entered chaos. The government intervened in drug prices without warning and pharmacists do not fulfill the reimbursable drugs for patients. It was put at the expense of pharmacists. Everything that happens in healthcare is at the expense of people, life and health," said Alimehmeti.

During his speech at Berisha's next podium with the Democrats of branches 1 and 3 in Tirana, Alimehmeti said that the prices of dozens of medicines have increased without any official explanation, while some of them have tripled.

"The prices of 10-three drugs increased without explanation. Some tripled. Without transparency. The Ministry of Health is there to deceive people ," he said, emphasizing that these are antibiotics, tumor drugs, and essential drugs for many diseases.

Alimehmeti stated that this situation weighs heavily on both the public fund and the patients who do not benefit from the reimbursement, while according to him, the beneficiaries are several pharmaceutical companies.

"Depots sell at a higher price, while they are required to sell to patients at a lower price. We have received many reports of patients going on a rampage ," he said.

The DP MP accused the Ministry of Health of lacking a plan and being oriented away from the interests of patients.

"The Ministry of Health works without a plan, it does not work towards the patient, but towards some relevant pockets. And it pits the patient layer against the pharmacist layer," said Alimehmeti, demanding an immediate solution.

At the end of the statement, Alimehmeti called for civic reaction and protest.

"On February 10, we are given the opportunity to give an answer to the government. This government can only be overthrown by protest, revolt. Let's call anyone. The square shows who the opposition is. How Edi Rama can do it," he concluded.
