Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha declared in Durrës that the country's road infrastructure is suffering serious damage without any legal consequences for those responsible. He made these comments during a meeting with citizens as part of his political tour.
Berisha said that some of the roads built in recent years have repeatedly collapsed. He demanded that institutions investigate the projects and their implementation, raising doubts about the way public funds are managed.
In his speech, he focused on the Librazhd-Prenjas axis, which remained blocked for several days after the damage. According to him, the authorities attributed the situation to natural factors, while he claimed that the problems are related to the quality of the works.
Berisha also mentioned damage to bridges and a tunnel, about which he said institutions have not provided complete information. He accused the government of links to corrupt interests and a lack of transparency in infrastructure projects.
Berisha: You have seen the roads, like never before, all the roads built during these years collapsed. They collapsed as if they were built of cardboard. You have heard of people being brought to justice. Nobody! Because those who built those roads shared the money with the government officials. The roads collapse and no one is responsible, they say nature destroyed them. They gave permission to erode the Shkumbini riverbed and to throw a road that is at least 70 years old into the river, they erode the river, the roads and bridges have collapsed. The tunnel has also collapsed, they are hiding the tunnel. No responsibility. I say this so that you understand what kind of enemy we are facing, how dangerous, how evil, how ruthless. A kind of mixture of state mafia with other mafiosi who weigh on our shoulders, our bodies that drive away Albanians every day, impoverish them every day. They behave like the worst invaders that Albania has ever known
