Just a few days after being sworn in, the new Minister of Health, Evis Sala, has left Albania for a two-week period.
According to TCH, she has notified her staff that she will return to the country on October 2.
The minister's last public appearance was the introduction of the new directors of the QSUT, Anxhela Paparizo, and of the FSDKSH, Arti Papajani, former director of Taxes during the DP government. Changes in the main directions of the institutions under the Ministry of Health have been rapid, while sources signal that other movements are also expected to occur in the National Medicines Agency.
The minister's departure comes at a time when the health sector is facing significant challenges, raising interest in how the pace of reforms and decision-making will continue to be managed during this period.
The lack of medicines for cancer patients, the scandal at the Oncology Center, the lack of some basic services, or the conditions in hospitals are some of the problems that require emergency intervention, and the minister's departure immediately after taking on this important task raises questions about how they will be worked on to improve them.
The minister herself said that with this position she has taken, she has entered a vast ocean and alongside Rama, she outlined the challenges she will face, while recalling the reimbursement of oncology drugs as an emergency.
The reasons for the minister's departure abroad for 2 weeks are unknown, whether they are related to personal aspects, but what she has done in just a few days of work is dismiss the director of FSDKSH Spartak Zekja and appoint the new director of QSUT, after the departure of Florenc Spaho.
Until its return to Albania, the Ministry of Health remains "orphaned".
