EU Embassy reacts to the reform of the Parliament...
The majority MPs in the Albanian Parliament have proposed to merge the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration and include it within the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy. Along with it, several other committees will also be merged and reformed.
But it seems that this process is being monitored by the European Union. The latter has reacted to journalist Osman Stafa.
Through several questions addressed to the EU delegation, the Staff requested information on whether the EU Delegation agrees with the dissolution of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, and is this unilateral act of the majority assessed as a narrowing of the opposition's space in the integration process, taking into account that for more than 20 years this committee has been led only by opposition representatives?
In its response, the EU delegation says that the Albanian parliament is a key institution for advancing the EU-related reform agenda. But according to them, consensus is needed.
“ The Parliament of Albania is the key institution for advancing the reform agenda related to the European Union and for consolidating the progress achieved so far in the context of the accession process.
In this regard, the constitutive steps of the new parliament are eagerly awaited, while EU integration remains a cross-party priority for lawmakers in the new parliamentary legislature.
"To be successful, membership requires cross-party consensus ," the EU told " News 24 ".
