The elected mayor of the Himara municipality, Fredi Beleri, said that the citizens of Himara deserve to have the mayor they voted for on May 14.
Asked about Greece's position and the threat of a veto against Albania in the EU, Beleri said that Greece is doing what the constitution requires, it is protecting its citizens outside the territory.
He was critical of the nationalist statements of some journalists who talk about the Greekization of Himara, describing them as gang spokesmen.
"There are some journalists who are saying that Himara is in danger, but he is taking Beleri to Corfu. They are the ones who have taken it upon themselves to discriminate, to alienate my statements, to invent things that are not. Himara is the municipality of Albania, the law must clarify the division of powers, they do not work here. Journalists are pretending that the majority are playing the role of the government and there are those fools who believe that an ethnic war is taking place in Himara, while two communities in Himara coexist, they laugh when they hear these statements in the television studio. The issue is in Tirana, not in Himara, there no one deals with ethnicity", said Beleri for "Euronews Albania".
