The member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party, Fitim Zekthi, spoke about the developments within the Democratic Party.
Invited to News24, Zekthi said that the PD is in a total crisis since 2021, as he described the democrats' stay without a leader for 1 and a half years as "stupidity that has led to the escalation of this political force".
He further added that he does not agree with postponing the process of electing the president of the DP, saying that postponing the internal elections means that you are naive or seek to destroy the party on purpose.
As for the specific names to lead the party, Zekthi declared that Basha has every right to compete, and that in a race with Jorida Tabaku, he would choose the former chairman of the Democrats. He went on to say that former Prime Minister Berisha can no longer have political success and that "due to the great crisis and the pressure to do something", he has chosen to call for protests again.
"The Democratic Party is in total crisis from September 2021. But for me, it has been in crisis since 2009, because the political elite has only seen its appetite. It was corrupted in a political sense during those years. This elite continued to govern until 2013 and after. The crisis has been deepened by not having a president.
PD has been without a leader for 1 and a half years. It is stupidity that brought about the escalation of this political organization. To still postpone the election of the party chairman means that you are either naive and do not understand politics, or that the destruction of the party is being sought on purpose.
Postponing the election of the president is terribly bad for the party and this will escalate the DP even more. The organization starts from the top down, there must be an elected chairman. I don't understand how they can think that the party is organized like this. I am for the election of the president based on the platforms, but as soon as possible.
The party was stupid when it did not elect a president for 1 and a half years. It was a big lie to the Democrats and the interests of the country.
I would like a PD president like Ronald Reagan, but we can't have him. If we don't have it, we will choose what we can choose or that carries those values. If DP is so bad, this is our political fate, but we must follow our principles. Lulzim Basha has every right to run for president, I don't know if he will win. If Basha and Rexhep Uka will run, I will vote for Rexhep Uka. If Basha and Tabaku run, I will choose Basha.
Merging is done based on values. PD must defend the conservative values of the center right. I believe that we should unite with all Albanians for common interests. But to dissolve this party in the name of unity is treason to the country.
Political parties in the country have many flaws and one of them is protest. Protests are made by those who cannot do politics, students, workers, etc. Here, political protests are held that do not serve the people, but internal political interests. Berisha from the great crisis and the pressure to do something protests to fill the space. There was manipulation, but no loss like this happened. Berisha and Meta will not protest again, I am convinced of that. The end of this movement was known because of the political conditions and Berisha can no longer have political success", said Zekthi.
