Prime Minister Rama spoke about the fight against corruption. The Prime Minister says that "for the first time since 1912, we have people connected to the political power, to the government in power or from those who were in the government, who are accused, investigated or convicted.
As he emphasizes that the government has made progress in the fight against corruption and that the justice institutions are not captured, Rama sells his "non-involvement" in SPAK and GJKKO as a success.
"What did we do? Relinquish political power over the judiciary and the creation of SPAK, GJKKO to fight corruption, we opened our shirt and exposed ourselves together with everyone else. We are in power, but we are not immune. For the first time in the history of this country, from 1912 until today, for the first time we have people connected to political power, to the government in power or to those who were in the government in a much more skewed ratio than it should be to be, that have been investigated, under investigation, accused, convicted by the Court independent of the political power. How is this that we have not made progress and there is corruption everywhere.
The government has the duty to use its mandate to guarantee with its non-involvement the independence of the judiciary and to support the strengthening of the judiciary through the assembly, by undertaking reforms and measures. This process is not to show Brussels, but to build the EU here. The EU is the only dough of knowledge for state building" , said Rama in the podcast.
For Rama, Albania has no other path than that of integration into the EU, since only there individual, legal freedom and functional democracy can be guaranteed.
"There is one thing that is fundamental. The EU is not perfect, it needs to be rethought according to the project, it needs to be deepened. In hundreds of years, we have not had the opportunity to choose, others have chosen for us. We have gone through empires, through regimes. The opportunity to choose came to us when the Berlin Wall came down. Everywhere there may be reasons to see that they work, but nowhere for us, in any direction, except in the EU can there be generational guarantees of individual freedom. It is the space of guaranteed individual freedom, and this is not negotiated, it is not ground and it is not sold for anything.
The second for the legal order, for what we are trying to establish for the first time in history a democratic legal order. There are difficulties and today it is showing weakness even in the EU due to the change in the political and party structure. Individual, legal freedom, all equal before the law and a functional democracy are found only there and only in that mahogany you can guarantee", said Rama.
