The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, declared that the project to build the new port in Porto Romano could constitute, according to him, "the biggest corruption affair in Europe", linking the issue to Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Referring to the investigation launched by the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), Berisha said that the seized file is only the beginning of the unraveling of the affair.
"Rama's 1001 nights Dubai with his entourage. The file was opened by SPAK, it is just the beginning. The biggest corruption affair in Europe is probably the port of Durres, which is worth 4 million euros," said Berisha.
SPAK has taken investigative actions regarding the tender procedure for the Porto Romano project, seizing the relevant documentation. According to sources, the file was taken on Tuesday at the premises of the Durrës Port Authority, where all procurement documentation was administered.
The project for the construction of the new port has an approximate value of 400 million euros and has been developed in two phases: the pre-qualification phase and the final qualification phase.
During the first phase, a company from the Netherlands was disqualified, while on March 9, only a financial offer was submitted. One Greek company remained in the competition, which continued with the closing procedure.
The SPAK investigation aims to verify whether legal requirements and the principles of fair competition were respected during the tender process. So far, the Durrës Port Authority has not issued an official response regarding the seizure of the file.
