Elisa Spiropali, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, who is visiting Greece, during the joint press conference with her Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, emphasized that relations between Albania and Greece are built on historically deep and geographically unshakable ties.
" I could not describe my visit here better than in the words of our great writer Ismail Kadare, as a visit to a neighbor shaped by the sense of beauty, philosophy, myth and the idea of democracy, a heritage that connects us and inspires us mutually. Our peoples who coexist in these lands have formed strong human bonds.
Our relationship, built on deep historical and geographically immovable ties, develops on bridges of shared values and interests, where the Greek minority living and working in Greece, many of them with citizenship, are the strongest bridges of this neighborhood.
Bilateral cooperation between our two friendly countries is today also supported by two strong pillars, which are the common today in the North Atlantic Alliance and the common tomorrow in the European Union.
For all its breadth and depth, Edi Rama's government has considered and defined the partnership between our two countries as strategic, since the first government program and onwards.
Our national and social, constitutional and spiritual objective, European integration, implies the closure of the negotiation chapters by 2027, a major but achievable challenge. Gratitude for Greece's continued and decisive support in this process, support that has been and remains decisive.
With the president and the minister, my friend, I received reconfirmation of the continuation of this support until the conclusion of Albania's technical accession talks, which also coincides with Greece's upcoming EU Presidency in the second half of 2027.
Therefore, in the meantime, we want to deepen dialogue, cooperation and the exchange of technical expertise in preparation for a more productive Presidency, in relation to our region, where Greece, at the head of the EU, will be, so to speak, "the adult in the room" for the Western Balkans.
"We expect Greece to use its political weight to advance the idea of a common European space, where the region is treated as a strategic whole, with respect and the merits of each ," she said.
