The European Union Ambassador to Tirana spoke today at the 'Social Dialogue in the Western Balkans' meeting.
Gonzato emphasized that social policies should be the focus, as according to him, there is an insecurity in relation to the job position among young people, given their desire to emigrate.
On the other hand, Ambassador Gonzato emphasized that, according to him, a system based on merit is missing.
"Social dialogue plays a role in Albania's health and is an important part of social and employment policies that are also part of the group chapter number 3 that will be opened very soon. Social dialogue is not only important for membership but also for cohesion. Young people are often worried about the future and this brings the desire to emigrate because they have job insecurity, this can also come from informal employment, days when they are not well are not paid. Another concern is the quality of education. But corruption is also a major obstacle for young people to realize their dreams. A system based on merit is missing. We need a meaningful social dialogue. NGOs are often in a better position than officials to talk to young people. The EU is at your side to help you with employment and social dialogue, through the growth plan that addresses socio-economic issues in Albania but in the Western Balkans as a whole", said Gonzato.
