Leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated outside the Parliament premises that a lobbying procedure was followed to remove the "non grata" status, clarifying that there were no contacts with the Biden administration.

During a statement to the media, Berisha said that lobbying was the only way to pursue his case, while emphasizing that the only sanction against him was a visa ban.

"They lobbied for Sali Berisha, because the procedure is lobbying. I did not lobby with the Biden administration. There is no other procedure there than lobbying. The only sanction I had was a visa. They tried very hard to pass it on to the Treasury, which conducted an in-depth investigation into me and my children and found nothing. As for who paid for it, it is a foundation that helps the DP and has undertaken to defend the cause of the DP," said Berisha.

Asked about the chants of "Berisha in prison" heard during the protests, the DP leader described them as incited by government supporters.

According to him, these calls come from " government tools."
