The CEC certified the result of the July 23 partial elections in the Rrogozhin Municipality, declaring the socialist Edison Memollaj the winner.
The elections in Rrogozhina were repeated due to irregularities in the May 14 process. Edison Memollaj is officially the mayor of Rrogozhina.
He received the mandate from the CEC a week after he won the election process on July 23 against the opposition candidate Shkëlqim Hoxha.
The SP candidate also won in the May 14 elections, but the electoral college decided to repeat the process due to irregularities in the prison cell of Rrogozhina.
The re-voting produced a clear result between the rivals. The SP candidate received 6,658 votes, while the candidate of the Together We Win coalition received 4,906 votes.
From 21 votes on May 14, the difference between Edison Memollaj and Shkelqim Hoxha was 1752 according to official data.
Unlike the May 14 process, the opposition did not appeal the process within 5 days and the CEC certified the result with a decision that came into effect immediately.
Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission is expected to approve the final result at the national level for political parties, finally closing the process of local government elections.
