For almost 24 hours, doctor Mereme Sela was a candidate for the position of leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, in the race to be held on May 23, where she rivaled Sali Berisha. But the Commission for the Organization and Control of Electoral Operations, in a unanimous decision, did not allow Sela to compete, with the arguments that she does not meet the criteria of a figure with a very high public and political profile, as well as that of electoral leadership experience at the national or regional level.
After this decision, she reacted, describing her disqualification from the competition as unacceptable and unfair. In her reaction, Sela even stated that if there was a fair assessment, the person who should have been disqualified from the competition is Sali Berisha.
" I received the notice of disqualification through the media, which in itself is unacceptable. This decision is unfair and unjustified. On the contrary, if there were a fair assessment and in accordance with the party Statute, the person who should have been subject to disqualification is Professor Berisha."
I will follow all available legal procedures and file my official complaint. However, based on previous experiences, I do not expect a serious reaction or response from the Democratic Party, as this has been a repeated practice over the years. This course of action is one of the main reasons why the Democratic Party is in this situation today , "said Sela
