Sali Berisha has been left alone in the race for the presidency of the Democratic Party of Albania, after the rival candidacies of Mereme Sela and Vladimir Mulaj failed to pass the 'filters' of the Commission for the Organization and Control of Electoral Operations.
A day after Flamur Noka, Secretary General of the Democratic Party, declared that Sela met the criteria, and the doctor, who has been a member of the Democratic Party for 12 years, appeared on television shows as the candidate who would rival Berisha, hundreds of memes were produced on social networks that considered the race that would be held in the Democratic Party to be ridiculous.
But it seems that the Commission for the Verification of Accepted Candidacies has decided that only Berisha should run for the position of leader of the Democratic Party, thus choosing between a process that could produce endless memes and one with 1 candidate, to decide on the latter.
KOKOE unanimously assessed that Mereme Sela did not meet the criteria. More specifically, she did not meet the criteria of a figure with a very high public and political profile, as well as that of electoral leadership experience at the national or regional level.
For the same reasons, KOKOE decided to exclude Vladimir Mulaj from the competition.
The KOKOE decision also states that applications to be candidates were also submitted by other subjects, such as Ervin Salianji, Evi Kokalari and Alesia Balliu, which were not even considered. All of them, according to KOKOE, do not meet the criteria for being a member of the DP, despite the fact that Salianji was also a member of the Presidency and a former MP, while Kokalari was one of the members of the DP Re-establishment Commission.
