Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has called Prime Minister Edi Rama's visit to Athens unnecessary. On May 12, the prime minister will hold a meeting with the Albanians living there, but the visit has sparked speculation. It comes at a time when the campaign for the European elections is being held and Fredi Beleri is on the list of candidates.
Mitsotkais, who was invited to a show, was asked about this visit, he said that Rama is not coming as a guest of the Greek government, he is coming to talk with his compatriots. " It is his right, a choice that seems unnecessary to me. We have problems with Greek-Albanian relations ," he said.
On the other hand, the Greek Prime Minister does not have anger towards the EU either. Yesterday, the European Commission described Beler's case as a bilateral problem that should not be linked to the blocking of Albania's integration. But according to Mitsotakis, the issue of Fredi Beller's swearing-in ban is European, not bilateral. Regarding the rally in which Rama will speak, he said that they will not stop it, but they will not facilitate it either.
Even according to him, the Greek minority in Albania is represented in the European elections with two candidates, referring to Beleri and Pirro Dhima.
Regarding the reaction of the European Commission, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis also reacted, who asks the European Union to listen to Athens' concern about the case of Fredi Beleri, sentenced to two years in prison for vote buying.
According to him, this case is a proof of compliance with European democratic standards by Albania, especially as it seeks EU membership.
" This is not a bilateral issue, it is a European issue and we must perceive it as such and highlight it in all forums ," he said. / Pamphlet
