Votes from Greece 'block' the count, Balla debates with the CEC

What is being applied by the counters is that votes where there are contestations are set aside, that is, not counted, which is considered unacceptable by the Socialists.

Problems continue with the counting of diaspora votes at the Olympic Park, where it appears that the process has been blocked due to votes arriving from Greece.

The Democratic Party and its allies in the 'Greater Albania Alliance' coalition have raised claims regarding the regularity of the votes that have arrived from Greece.

What is being applied by the counters is that the votes where there are contestations are left aside, that is, not counted, which is considered unacceptable by the socialists. The DP has requested that the votes arriving from Greece be kept in a special box, not being counted in the results of the votes counted by the diaspora.

This entire situation has created tensions, with strong debates between CEC official Jona Josifi and Taulant Balla, the SP's political leader for the diaspora.

Balla has warned Josif that he is committing a legal violation, abusing his position, and will face the law.

"You are abusing your power, you are violating the law," Balla said to the CEC official, who, in order to unblock the counting process, appears to have instructed the tellers to set aside the contested votes.

"You have no right to break the law. You are breaking the law, what you are doing is beyond your competence. I have been doing this job for 30 years. Ask for proof. Who is the proof? Go examine the proof they tell you. They have lost, they want an alibi. You are in abuse of office. There is no decision, ma'am. This is serious", Balla reacts harshly, telling the representatives of the DP.

On the other hand, the DP representative, who is monitoring the process, states that "we have called on the CEC to take measures and separate the Greek vote, as the process has been accompanied by anomalies."

"There is no legal basis to challenge an envelope. The DP is taking its own counters by storm. The penalty is 3-6 months in prison for obstructing the process. You can't challenge an envelope, you can challenge a ballot. Have you heard any evidence?", warns Balla.

On the other hand, Jozefina Topalli, political leader of the DP for the Diaspora, expressed doubts that the SP structures may have played the role of subcontractor for the distribution of envelopes with ballots.

"We think it was a very beautiful day and we hope it ends just as beautifully. It is important to count the will of the Albanians. Maybe it is a technical issue that the counting of the diaspora vote has not yet started. I want to thank all those from the diaspora who voted and those who came to vote. We expect a big turn in terms of Greece.

We have been publicly denouncing for more than ten days and through our lawyers at the CEC for a process that has created serious concerns. Today we have fulfilled the request for a separate division of ballot boxes, so that when the time comes we can analyze the process in Greece and verify the standards of implementation of the Electoral Code. There are doubts about who did the distribution as a subcontractor - it is possible that it was the structures of the Socialist Party. We demand the verification of these serious doubts. There are about 190 thousand envelopes with votes to be counted," Topalli said.

This entire situation could hamper the process of counting diaspora votes, which could account for the highest number of total votes received by mail.
