The head of government demanded "maximum punishment for the wanted person and maximum respect for the State Police."

"During a courageous operation to capture a wanted man, who had been hiding from the law in the mountains of Korça for years and had repeatedly managed to escape the police's sieges, one police officer lost his life and a second was injured, while after opening fire on them, the criminal was also injured and captured!

Eternal honor to the martyr of the homeland, condolences to the family and a speedy recovery to the other officer

"Maximum punishment for the wanted person and maximum respect for the State Police, which will never stop in its mission ," Rama writes.

The 'Eagle' force officer Enea Mekolli, 34, was killed while his colleague Edison Adri, 36, was injured as a result of an exchange of fire in a tent in Lozhan, Maliqi. The perpetrator is Violand Braçellari, 43, who was declared wanted and sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison for 'Production and sale of narcotics'.

Braçellari was hiding in the tent while the police had tracked him down and went to arrest him. The tent was surrounded and the 43-year-old did not respond to police calls to surrender, but opened fire on the officers, killing one of them and wounding another. The latter was taken by army helicopter to Trauma with a wound to the jaw and is out of danger.

The police responded with a gun, wounding the perpetrator in the abdomen. He was arrested and initially taken to Korça Hospital for treatment, but will be sent to Trauma for specialized treatment.
