The prime minister denied the existence of a final project for Jared Kushner's investment and accused the media of spreading fake news.
Prime Minister Edi Rama clashed with a CNN journalist during an interview where he was asked several times about the tourism project in Zvërnec and the investment related to Jared Kushner.
The debate began after the journalist sought clarification on the fate of the project and reports on SPAK's investigations, while Rama insisted that there is no concrete project yet and that a large part of the information circulating is untrue.
Commenting on the footage of the protests and the accusations leveled against the investment, the prime minister said that many of the critics are relying on false images shared on social media.
" Listen, thank you for showing that video, because it is precisely the portrait of someone who is misinformed or part of those who misinform. Because, first of all, there is no project. He is talking about a project that he has not seen anywhere else except in false images created and distributed on social networks in Albania, because we are in a hybrid war ," Rama said.
At one point in the interview, the journalist intervened to ask if the project would continue or had been stopped, while Rama reacted by accusing her of not listening.

Journalist: Let me first get your reaction to the protests we have seen both in the capital Tirana and in the coastal cities, regarding this development related to Jared Kushner. How do you respond to their protests and concerns?
Edi Rama: First of all, I thank you for giving me this opportunity, because I must say that it is truly impressive to feel the weight of fake news coming even from media that, in my eyes, are very respected.
And just to clarify, you said protests all over Albania. That is false. There are no protests all over Albania. There is a protest in the capital.
We are in a hybrid war. Albania is under attack from enemies we know very well. It is under attack from very strong competition in our part of the Mediterranean. It is under attack from thousands and hundreds of thousands of fake profiles (bots) that have been created to cause this whole storm.
And of course, there are well-meaning people in this protest, young people who are generally interested in the environment, but who are largely misinformed.
There is no such thing as a “Trump family island.” There is no such thing as the American president’s family taking over protected areas with flamingos.

Edi Rama: Dëgjoni, faleminderit që e shfaqët atë video, sepse ajo është pikërisht portreti i dikujt që është i keqinformuar ose pjesë e atyre që keqinformojnë. Sepse, para së gjithash, nuk ka asnjë projekt. Rama: Përsëri, nuk ka ende një projekt. Nuk ka një projekt.
Gazetarja: Dua t’ju dëgjoj, zoti Kryeministër, por po përpiqem të sqaroj…
Edi Rama: Doni të më dëgjoni apo doni vetëm të flisni?
Gazetarja: Dua t’ju dëgjoj, por po përpiqem të sqaroj për shikuesit tanë. Ju po na akuzoni për lajme të rreme dhe po përpiqem të kuptoj nëse projekti vazhdon apo është ndalur. Sepse, sipas raportimeve të Politico, Prokuroria e Posaçme kundër Korrupsionit në Shqipëri ka nisur një hetim për këtë projekt. Si mund të vazhdojë projekti në këto kushte?
Edi Rama: Përsëri, ju nuk doni të dëgjoni. Është shumë e qartë për mua. Nuk po ju sulmoj. Po ju them të vërtetën. Dhe derisa të më tregoni projektin, duhet të më dëgjoni, sepse nuk ka projekt.
Për të krijuar këtë projekt, grupi që nuk përbëhet vetëm nga Jared Kushner dhe Ivanka Trump, por edhe nga investitorë të tjerë shumë të respektuar, ka angazhuar pesë nga arkitektët më të mirë në botë sot:
Kengo Kuma nga Japonia, Bjarke Ingels nga Danimarka, Emre Arolat nga Turqia, K-Studio nga Greqia, Jean Nouvel nga Franca.
Këta po punojnë së bashku me inxhinierë të nivelit më të lartë për mjedisin dhe specialistë të ndikimit social. Ndërkohë është angazhuar edhe një nga kompanitë më të mëdha konsulente për vlerësimin e ndikimit mjedisor.
Sepse sfida nuk është të ndërtohet një qytet. Sfida nuk është të derdhet beton mbi kokat e flamingove. Sfida është të provohet se zhvillimi dhe natyra jo vetëm që mund të bashkëjetojnë, por se natyra dhe zhvillimi kanë nevojë për njëra-tjetrën.
Njerëzit meritojnë të jetojnë në një lloj tjetër mjedisi, ku mund ta shijojnë natyrën dhe njëkohësisht t’i tregojnë respekt.
Pra, projekti ende nuk ekziston. Vlerësimi i ndikimit mjedisor është ende duke u kryer. E kuptoni? Dhe më lini të përfundoj.
Gazetarja: Po ju dëgjoj, zoti Kryeministër.
Edi Rama: Më lini të përfundoj, sepse ju përmendët Politico dhe thatë se ka një hetim antikorrupsion. Ky është lajm i rremë. Hetimi ka të bëjë me një nga pronarët e tokës. Është tokë private dhe një nga pronarët e ka shitur pronën, e cila është blerë përmes transaksioneve bankare krejtësisht transparente.
The investigation is about that issue. It's not about the investment. It's not about the project. It's not about Kushner. It's not about Trump. It's not about any of the stuff that's being thrown into this mix to create the sensational news that Albania is a place where we're killing flamingos.
Because the challenge is not to build a city. The challenge is not to pour concrete over the heads of flamingos. The challenge is to prove that development and nature can not only coexist, but that nature and development need each other.
People deserve to live in a different kind of environment, where they can enjoy nature and at the same time show it respect.
So the project doesn't exist yet. The environmental impact assessment is still being carried out. Do you understand? And let me finish.
