Lulzim Basha, who leads the Euro-Atlantic Coalition in the May 11 elections, rejected any proposal to cooperate with Dashamir Shehi and Enkelejd Alibeaj. The latter reached an agreement between them by creating a coalition "Right for Development", while at that time Lulzim Basha was also invited.
The aftermath of the failure to reach an agreement was revealed by Enkelejd Alibeaj, leader of the "Right 1912" party.
On the "Now" show, Alibeaj emphasized that he has no intention of attacking or being aggressive with representatives of other parties, but that he is simply expressing his truth. According to him, the reasons for not concluding with Mr. Basha were banal, and related to disagreement on the principle of equality in the coalition.
"I do not want to fall into attacks or aggression towards new parties, but I am speaking my truth. In December of last year, we came up with a platform presented to each of the parties for the creation of a coalition as inclusive as possible, where each subject would maintain its protagonism. No one accepted, perhaps also due to our inability to convince them. Dashamir Shehi had the most contacts with Mr. Basha, but the reason for the non-cooperation was quite banal," Alibeaj said.
He explained that there were three parties involved in the discussions: LZHK, Basha's Party, and Right 1912, and the goal was to create a coalition with a public figure at the head – who did not belong to any of the parties.
"We had some names in mind, but Mr. Basha refused. He had an approach that came from the claim that he had more structures and was a bigger party. But in a union, the logic must be based on parity," Alibeaj said.
He also added that there was agreement that the coalition would be represented by the figure of Dashamir Shehi, but this was also rejected by Mr. Basha.
"Secondly, at least we agreed that a peaceful figure like Dashamir Shehi, articulate and wise, would do honor to this coalition. But even this was not accepted. Each had their own claims. Perhaps they thought that they would only have more success. But I think and continue to think that a union without losing identity would be the best way to attract that 1/3 of the electorate, the most emancipated part that has put an end to Edi Rama and Sali Berisha. This was our goal, but we did not succeed," said Alibeaj.
