On the other hand, the head of the official Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, decided not to come up with a candidate in the partial elections in Kukës.
During the speech held at the meeting of the National Council, Basha said that it is the last time that the PD does not have a candidate for elections.
"The evidence of the costs that the events within us have produced are also the elections of Kukes. We respected the will of the Kukes Branch not to issue a candidate, because it is also our responsibility, of all of us, that for a long time we were engaged in fighting each other and not with the revival and reorganization of the party.
Today we complete the completion of the structure and everyone, without exception, with me first, must be on the ground to rebuild the party and to be ready, wherever and whenever, for electoral confrontations," said Basha.
While Albert Halilaj is the candidate with whom the socialists intend to take the leadership of the municipality of Kukës again.
The new elections will take place on September 24, after the former mayor of Kukes, Safet Gjici, was arrested a few weeks ago at the request of SPAK, after he was put under investigation at the time of the publication of an intimate video of him with a girl in the premises of the office in the municipality.
Gjici is suspected of committing corruption with a tender and after verifications in the municipality of Kukes. After the publication of the video, Safet Gjici resigned from his position saying that he was the victim of a trap and that he had shown himself to be frivolous while having an intimate relationship with the girl who appeared in the video.
Safet Gjici had just won the local elections on May 14 and was expecting to officially resume his post as mayor.
