The citizens of Kukës are voting today to elect the new mayor, after the sexual scandal of Safet Gjic.
45 thousand 946 citizens have the right to vote, while the voting process continues without problems in the entire region.
Until 11:00, the Central Election Commission reports that the participation was 14.14%, while 66 Voting Centers out of 74 reported.
Citizens will choose between two candidates, Albert Halilajt of the Socialists and Emri Vata of the 'Bashke Fitomje' coalition. Even in these elections, the Democratic Party chose not to come up with a candidate because of the division.
Halialj of the SP voted before 10:00, while calling on all citizens to go to the ballot boxes and choose the best alternative. The candidate of "Bashke Fitomje" also cast his vote in the ballot box.
"I invite them to vote for the best and most convincing alternative for this wonderful city," Halilaj said.
After the candidate of the SP, the candidate of the coalition 'Bashke Fitomjem', Emri Vata went to the ballot box to cast his vote.
In a short statement to the media after the vote, Vata called on the people of Kuksi to come out and vote, while he stressed that the opposition camp will report any irregularities and attempts to influence the voters.
"Today is a marked day, a holy day for Kukës and for his future. I invite all residents to turn to the boxes en masse to express their free will and democratically. Until now, we have identified all kinds of problems that are attempted to undermine the will, which will be presented after they are documented," he said.
The elections in Kukës take place after the scandal involving the former mayor Safet Gjici, just a few weeks after he won the May 14 elections. He appears in the video having intimate relations with Alma K. inside the premises of the municipality office. Gjici is currently in prison.
