The American ambassador in Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, has reacted regarding the detention of the deputy director of the Kosovo Police, Dejan Jankovic in Serbia.
Hovenier said during his speech that they are worried. He further added that the embassy is well aware of the role that Jankovic has played in the Kosovo Police and that they recognize his efforts for the integration of the Serbian community in the police.
"Jankovic is well known by the American Embassy and many others. We are particularly concerned. He is someone we have known for many years, an ethnic Serb of the Kosovo Police who has spent a lot of energy and time in the police helping a lot in the integration of the Serbian community in the Kosovo Police.
He has played a special role in ensuring that the sensitivity related to the Serbian community is addressed by the Kosovo Police, as well as playing a role in preserving the cultural heritage of Kosovo, including the Orthodox monasteries. We are worried and we hope that he will be released soon," Hovenier told reporters.
The Minister of Internal Affairs in Kosovo, Xelal Svecla, said that Jankovic was taken into custody for 48 hours by the Serbian authorities. He stated that Jankovic was taken into custody under the charge of disrupting the constitutional order.
