"You will be punished"/ Osmani responds to Macron: The suspension of
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said on Wednesday that the suspension of the decision to remove visas for the citizens of Kosovo from January 1, 2024, would kill the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

She made these statements, referring to the position of the French president, Emmanuel Macron, who said on August 28 that his country will review the commitments it has made regarding economic issues and visa policies for Kosovo and Serbia. , if they do not behave responsibly.

" I would say that this is the way to kill the dialogue once and for all. If someone wants to stop dialogue, then take such measures, which are punitive measures against the people of Kosovo. They are not against any leader, they are not against a policy, they are against the people of Kosovo. And such an unprecedented punishment, which has been a great injustice for the people of Kosovo, will result in the death of the dialogue. There is no longer anyone with a mandate to go to Brussels, when the people of Kosovo are being punished ", said Osmani during a visit to the Memorial for the Missing in Pristina.

Osmani said that Kosovo has reached agreement with the European Union for the extension of the situation in the north as early as July 10 in Bratislava. She has mentioned that the agreement envisages the reduction of the presence of the Kosovo Police in and around the municipal buildings in the north, a step that she has said that Kosovo has taken, and that they are working on the organization of new elections.

According to Osman, the legal basis for holding these elections will be ready on September 1, and thus he said that he expects the EU to remove the punitive measures against Kosovo, which it has assessed as unfair and disproportionate. Another point of the Bratislava agreement provides for the fastest possible return to high-level dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

Osmani has said that he expects movement in this direction in September. On August 28, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, discussed the dialogue with the EU envoy for the dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak. Tensions between Kosovo and Serbia were high in May of this year, since the residents of the northern municipalities - Zveçan, Leposavic and Zubin Potok - opposed the entry of new Albanian mayors into the municipal buildings. Residents of these Serbian-majority municipalities have been protesting for weeks in front of the buildings and in some cases the situation has escalated into violence.
