Germany challenges Macron: There are no conditions for visa liberalization for
Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz

Germany will not condition the liberalization of visas for Kosovo, which should enter into force on January 1, writes the Euraktiv portal, where it is said that there are differences of opinion between France and Germany on this issue.

The statement of French President Emmanuel Macron caused a stir last week when he said that the visa waiver for Kosovo could be reviewed by Paris and Berlin, if Pristina does not resolve the current tensions in the north of Kosovo and in dialogue with Belgrade.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, asked if they had agreed with Macron on a possible revision of the visa liberalization system, said that Germany adheres to EU regulations approved in April of this year, according to which citizens of Kosovo will in the future be exempted from the visa regime for shorter stays in the Schengen area (up to 90 days within 180 days).

This decision is expected to enter into force on January 1, 2024, which means that all Western Balkan countries will be equally excluded from the visa regime for short stays in the Schengen area. Euraktiv points out that Macron's inclusion of Germany in his statement was done without Berlin's consent.
