Despite Serbia's diplomatic offensive, which also involved the wife of the Serbian president, Kenya has today recognized Kosovo as an independent state.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani confirmed today that Kenya has recognized Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state with a decision signed by President William Ruto.
Kenya thus became the 105th member state of the United Nations to recognize Kosovo. However, given that Russia and China, two permanent members of the UN Security Council, do not recognize Pristina, Kosovo remains a non-member state of the UN.
As Index.hr writes, the recognition of Kosovo comes months after Serbia launched a diplomatic offensive to prevent it. In October 2024, Tamara Vučić, the wife of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, was sent to Nairobi as part of a Serbian diplomatic campaign.
