Footage from the shooting attack today in Kumanovo, where Zekirija Shaini, a candidate for the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), was injured, has been published.
As can be seen from the footage, the assailant ambushed the car in which the 43-year-old was traveling, shooting him several times with a gun and then quickly driving away.
According to the official announcement of the Ministry of Interior (MPB), the incident occurred in front of the Kumanovo Municipality building, while Zekirija Shaini was injured in the leg and is out of danger.
"At around 1:54 p.m. in Kumanovo, two unknown persons opened fire on the car of Mr. Sh. from the village of Sllupçan, employed at the Pulmonology Clinic. After first aid, he was taken to the City Hospital," announced the Kumanovo Internal Affairs Sector (SPB).
The police have launched an investigation and are working to fully clarify the case. Meanwhile, the Kumanovo Public Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that two public prosecutors are at the scene to collect traces and material evidence.
"Regarding the incident in Kumanovo, two public prosecutors from the Basic Public Prosecution Office of Kumanovo have gone to the scene and are undertaking investigative actions. Initial indications do not indicate political motives behind the armed incident, but all circumstances are being verified," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
Investigations are ongoing, while the perpetrators of the attack are still at large. The DUI announced that, in solidarity with the injured man and due to the seriousness of this event, the party has suspended all activities planned for today.
