Murder of Liridona Ademaj, forensic doctor: Shot from a distance of 2-5 cm

Forensic pathologist Naim Uka testified on Monday in the court hearing against Naim Murseli, Granit Plava and Kushtrim Kokallë, who are accused of planning and executing Liridona Ademaj. He provided details after the examination, describing the characteristics of the injuries suffered by the victim, and also gave details about what he found on Ademaj's body.

"During the examination of the entrance wound, we found around the entrance hole the presence of additional factors of the shooting, which caused skin burns with the presence of gunpowder particles and, based on this forensic evidence, it was found that the shooting distance was between 2 and 5 cm. The possibility of killing by stabbing or semi-stabbing is excluded due to the lack of stamping of the gun barrel around the entrance hole of the wound. The wound is described as having a triangular shape, which is accompanied by multiple bone fractures and accompanied by soot around it," says Naim Uka, forensic physician.

"In similar cases, when preliminary data from the scene is missing, during the forensic autopsy, detailed examinations of the palms of the deceased's hands are also performed. In this case, too, we have conducted examinations of both hands of the deceased, so that, based on the presence or absence of additional factors of shooting and stains (blood spatter), the possibility that the same person used a weapon or committed suicide has been eliminated. And the lack of cataleptic numbness of the index finger is another additional piece of evidence. It is legal evidence that completes the first finding and leaves no doubt about any other possibility ," says Naim Uka, forensic physician.

Regarding the hematoma on Liridone's arm, which was also mentioned in the Forensic Institute report, Uka said that it was caused before or during the murder of the deceased.

"During standard procedures of forensic structures, in addition to fatal wounds, all other possible bodily injuries are examined and, in this case, during the external examination of the body, a skin hemorrhage - hematoma measuring approximately 6 x 1.5 cm was found in the upper and outer region of the left arm. This hemorrhage is described as red and blue. Such a coloring itself, based on forensic scientific literature and practice, proves that this hemorrhage was caused before or during the murder of the deceased. The red color indicates the time of fresh and oxygenated erythrocytes released from the blood vessels at the moment of traumatization. This is typical of the acute phase. The blue color is when it begins to deoxygenate and degrade. Any other possibility that this hemorrhage was caused after the death of the deceased is excluded ," says Naim Uka, forensic physician.

The accused Naim Murseli also had questions about the forensic doctor, but Uka told him that he is not called upon to prejudge the position of the victim and that he is only responsible for making a clear description of any bodily injury, describing the characteristics of the injuries suffered, based on which interpretations are made for the prosecution and the panel of judges in the fate of the trial. Three other people are expected to testify at the hearings.
