During this week, the Ministry of Local Government Administration made a decision to appoint a Working Group that would draft the Administrative Instruction for setting the procedures that would enable the removal of the mayors of the municipalities in the north through an initiative. What does the European Union say?
Several times, the EU repeated that the mayors in the municipalities in the north should resign, in order to pave the way for holding new elections in the north of the country.
In a response to Nacional, the European Union has said that it expects more information from Kosovo about the "concrete steps" that would lead to the holding of elections.
"The EU notes the decision of the Minister of Local Government Administration to establish a working group on local petitions for withdrawal. The EU is waiting to receive more information from the authorities about the next concrete steps that would lead to the holding of these elections," states their response.
Furthermore, the European Union declared that early elections in the north should be held without delay.
"In its statement of June 3, the EU requested that early local elections in the north of Kosovo be held without delay. The EU is ready to provide legal and technical support for any process that would lead to the holding of early local elections through withdrawal petitions in northern Kosovo." - was said in their response to Nacional.
What was said in the Government document?
In a document signed by Minister Elbert Krasniqi, it was announced that this group is headed by Besim Myrtezan and members Xhevat Tava, Fetije Begolli and Flurim Arifi. The group has until September 1 of this year to draft an administrative instruction. Their responsibility more specifically, as stated in the document, is "the drafting of the Administrative Instruction for setting the procedures and deadlines for the citizens' initiative for the removal of the mayors."
Kosovo demands the lifting of the measures
Prej së premtës, Njësia Speciale e Policisë së Kosovës është zvogëluar edhe për 25 për qind në dhe rreth komunave veriore. Ky është një hap tjetër, sipas marrëveshjes së Bratislavës, për deeskalimin e situatës. Krahas zbatimit të pikave të marrëveshjes së arritur, zyrtarë të Qeverisë duke përfshirë këtu kryeministrin e vendit, Albin Kurti kanë kërkuar që tashmë BE-ja t’i largojë masat ndëshkuese të vendosura ndaj Kosovës në kohën kur situate në veri ishte e tensionuar.
Kurti para disa ditëve, në një deklaratë të tij kishte rikujtuar se këto masa ishin “të përkohshme dhe të kthyeshme”, derisa u shpreh se pret që të njëjtat të largohen sa më parë.
"We are preparing to have early elections in the north of Kosovo, meanwhile, for these measures that have been taken against us and which are called both temporary and reversible, of course we expect them to be removed as soon as possible and it is logical that this will happen beforehand. So, it is not a question of conditions, but of the logical order of things, which should have as the first step the implementation of the agreement between Bisli and Lajcak... and which of course creates that minimum normality for early elections." - said the prime minister./Nacionale
