The Serbian Foreign Minister and the candidate for Prime Minister in the elections of December 17, Ivica Dačič, in an interview with Belgrade media clarified the main points of Serbian foreign diplomacy.
Dacic says that the Kosovo issue cannot be resolved by harming the interests of the Serbs.
"States more powerful than us think that Kosovo is independent, but we again brought them to sit at the table and listen respectfully to what Serbia and the Serbs of Kosovo want. Before, they did not treat us like this, they were looking for a solution for Kosovo where the Serbs were not included as a party. Now we have the opportunity, despite the pressures, to keep Kosovo as part of the territory of Serbia" , said Dacic.
Dacic, who leads the Serbian Socialist Party in coalition with the Progressive Party that governs the country of Aleksandar Vucic, has also opposed the country's entry into NATO.
"Serbia should not be a member of NATO, but we should maintain good cooperation with the alliance. We are a militarily neutral country. They have not invited us so far, but even if they do we will not accept because NATO bombed us 25 years ago. We can continue cooperation in the field of military training, as we currently do", said Dacic.
Regarding the country's entry into the EU, Dacic says that he would agree, but would not harm Serbia's economic interests with Russia and China in order to obtain the European Union membership card.
"For EU integration, we must not compromise cooperation with our old friends such as Russia, China and India. For me, it is not important when we will enter the EU, it is important that we complete the reforms required of us by Brussels and have the same standard as other European countries", he underlined .
Also, Dacic has stated that he will be against economic sanctions against Russia. A few days ago, he said that Slobodan Milosevic was the unifying politician of all Serbs who should be appreciated as a patriotic figure. The pro-Butcher of the Balkans statement was condemned by some liberal voices in Serbian public opinion, but there was no reaction from the international community.
