The Kosovo Assembly failed to elect a new leader of the Parliament in this afternoon's session, while the session continues on Wednesday. It seems that this time is available to the parties to find a compromise.
The Vetëvendosje Movement has sought to reach a political agreement on the election of the Speaker of the Parliament, but the PDK and LDK have positioned themselves against the name of Albulena Haxhiu.
" VV, obviously has the same name, Albulena Haxhiu as the proposed one. Since we have seen that all political entities had announced yesterday that they would have the same position, I think that in this political situation it cannot be resolved except with a political agreement.
"Without the creation of a majority, the Assembly itself will not be able to be constituted for the Speaker of the Assembly. The same logic applies to the Deputy Speakers ," said Konjufca.
Acting Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, on behalf of the Vetëvendosje Movement, accused the opposition of blocking the constitution of the Assembly. He said that all subjects should vote for the VV proposal for the Speaker of the Assembly. Murati said that Albulena Haxhiu is the name proposed by Vetëvendosje and added that they cannot become part of the games for the proposed names. Murati said that he hopes that the opposition will reflect and vote for the Speaker of the Assembly. He said that he aims to avoid elections, but also for this issue the Assembly should be constituted.
PDK Chairman Memli Krasniqi stated that the Vetevendosje Movement should change its candidate for Speaker of the Parliament as they have 47 other MPs after Albulena Haxhiu will not pass. He said that Haxhiu is a symbol of the failure of Albin Kurti's Government. He said there is no need for a political agreement to elect the Speaker of the Parliament. Krasniqi added that the Parliament cannot be held hostage because of Albulena Haxhiu.
Hykmete Bajrami from LDK said that Vetëvendosje's request for additional time for a political agreement when they say they will not change the candidate's name and insist that it is their right does not show a willingness for a possible political agreement. She added that LDK has no "pro" vote for either Albulena Haxhiu or any other VV candidate for speaker of parliament.
