The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Viola von Crammon, has reacted strongly to the meeting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held in Athens with the Serbian head of state, Aleksandar Vucic.
According to the MEP, it is likely that Vučić offered his counterpart weapons, on the condition that Kiev continues not to recognize Kosovo's independence. She shared a tweet by Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko, who said that Ukraine should not compromise its principles and should recognize Kosovo as a state.
"Correct! There are many possibilities that Aleksandar Vučić agreed with Volodymyr Zelenskyn to mainly exert pressure on Ukraine: weapons in exchange for not recognizing Kosovo. I hope Zelensky understands what political risk such an agreement can bring. Kosovo's independence and stability are also in Ukraine's interest," said Viola von Cramon.
Zelensky met with Vucic in the framework of the informal dinner organized by the Greek chief executive, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with leaders of the region. The Serbian president himself confirmed through a post on Instagram that at the meeting, the two of them had also discussed Kosovo.
"I explained the situation around Kosovo. I don't think there will be any change in Ukraine's position regarding our territorial integrity. We supported Ukraine on its European path".
Vucic meanwhile objected to a provision in the Final Declaration, which was agreed upon during the dinner hosted by Mitsotakis, that called for the imposition of sanctions on Russia, so according to Serbian media, this provision was not even adopted as part of the document confirmed last night.
