To forget the blood of the fallen, the contribution of the martyrs is more than an ordinary curse...
On the Prishtina-Tirana bus these days I met the mother of one of the KLA martyrs from Bujan i Tropoja. In the above conversation, he explained to me that he had traveled to the government of Kosovo to inquire about the procedure for his son's martyr status, and on the spot he said that he had tried in vain. I have been several times, he then added, and in all cases they give me the same answer, go to Tirana, there you will get the official answer. Maybe this is how it should be done, I tried to reassure him, as I watched his hands shake. Yes, I got a son, yes, and in Tirana the same gravel, she returned to me and looked out the window for a moment as if to end the conversation. Without wanting to take his side further, he pronounced with difficulty that this did not happen only to him, but to all the familiars of the martyrs from Albania who were killed in the ranks of the KLA. We go to Pristina, she said, and they address us to Rama. We go to Tirana and they direct us to Kurti.
This conversation was the trigger to further discuss the fate of the status of KLA martyrs from Albania. There are 69 such from all the provinces of the country, starting from Kavaja, Hasi, Tropoja, Berat, Shkodra and even from distant Skrapari. With an average age of 25 years. The first reactions from the authorities of Tirana and Pristina were among the most diverse. A kind of disbelief drew attention to the considerable number of martyrs. There were those who reproachfully asked about the missing honors for them. It should be noted that after so many years, both Kosovo and Albania still do not have the complete list of KLA martyrs from our country. The names of those who died in the war against the Serbian occupier can only be found in the archives of the operational areas and in the brilliant memory of fellow soldiers. This is a painful oversight on such an important issue. This is what happens when the government of Albania and Kosovo have special offices for the status of martyrs and war veterans, where well-paid officials serve. However, until now, the fate of the KLA martyrs has not been on their agenda at all. Not even the slightest attempt to create the relevant file has been detected. Not to mention caring for their families, who live in the farthest reaches of urban centers, most of them in conditions of deep poverty.
This is not the place to bring here the extraordinary values of the heroic act of this generation of young people who sacrificed themselves at the front of the war for the freedom of Kosovo. After all, they did what they thought was best and most beneficial for the nation. Our silence, the oblivion of the two Albanian-speaking countries towards their work is extremely painful. Joint meetings of the two respective governments have been held over dozens of times. Joint sessions of the Parliament of Albania and that of What is not talked about and debated in them, but about the martyrs, the fallen, none has been mentioned. You say that we have officials without memory and short-sighted institutions?! To forget the blood of the fallen, the contribution of the martyrs is more than an ordinary curse. When the state institutions will be remembered here and across the border, at least mention their full figure. When will they remember to start with respect for their work. When will they remember to go to the gates of the families of the martyrs and give them a hand to get them out of poverty. The more they delay, the more shame on them./Pamphlet
