"They are wrong", Albin Kurti criticizes the policy of the EU: They

Kurti criticized the European Union, which Kosovo intends to join in the future, for not reacting to the violations committed by Serbia.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has accused the West of "petting" Serbia due to fear and concerns about destabilization, adding that it is being rewarded while Kosovo is "paying" for this.

Kurti's government has been criticized by several countries in the West and the EU for a series of decisions in the north of the country inhabited by a Serbian majority during this year, where he has said that he wants to establish law and order.

He said that the West, being "very careful" with Serbia, is making Kosovo "pay for this and this is not right".

Speaking in an interview with the Reuters news agency on Friday, Kurti said: " I think that the pampering of Serbia [by the West] during the two and a half years since the Russian aggression in Ukraine started is not paying off, so someone has to say enough. Serbia's strong ties with the Russian Federation and the deep historical, economic and cultural ties between them are making the West be very careful with Serbia ", reports " REL ".

Serbia, unlike EU countries and other Western countries, does not agree to impose sanctions on Russia for Moscow's occupation of Ukraine.

It continues to maintain warm ties with Russia, although it has said it supports Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Meanwhile, in recent months, Serbia has signed an agreement with France for the purchase of fighter jets worth about 2.7 billion euros, as a memorandum of understanding for lithium with the EU.

" It [Serbia] has also found partners in the West because of the fear and concerns that some diplomats have that destabilization could happen again. Before the war in Ukraine, I saw some Western diplomats very relaxed, now the same ones are very scared. I think they were wrong then and they are wrong now ," Kurti added.

Brussels must put pressure on Serbia!

Kurti criticized the European Union, which both neighboring countries intend to join in the future, for not reacting to the violations committed by Serbia.

"Brussels must play the role of the judge who blows the pipe whenever there is a violation of the Agreement ", said Kurti, referring to the Basic Agreement that Kosovo and Serbia reached under the mediation of the EU in early 2023 for the normalization of relations .

The European Union has constantly criticized the parties for not implementing this agreement.

Kurti insisted that the agreement be signed and that Serbia withdraw a letter that the then prime minister, Ana Bërnabič, sent to the EU last year, where she expressed reservations about the agreement, as well as hand over to Kosovo Millan Radoicic and the group of him, suspected of the armed attack in Banjska.

" What we have seen these two years is that Brussels did not react when Belgrade violated the agreement. We want Brussels to put pressure on Serbia to respect the agreement and engage with good will and constructively in its full implementation ", said Kurti.

Kurti's government banned the Serbian dinar, closed several branches of the Serbian post office, as parallel Serbian institutions in a series of decisions this year, while it also intends to open the bridge over the Iber River, which has been criticized as risking unrest and instability.

Regarding the bridge over the Iber, which divides Mitrovica in the south with an Albanian majority and in the north with a Serbian majority, Kurti accused Serbia of wanting to keep it closed.

" Serbia wants to keep the bridge in Mitrovica closed because it wants to keep alive the dream of the division of Kosovo. It wants to turn the bridge over the Iber into a new border. This will not happen ," he said.

Now the bridge is open only for pedestrians and the Italian KFOR soldiers are on it. Members of the Kosovo Police are located near it as well.
