"Peace in the Balkans depends on a thread", Ana Baerbock warns Serbia:

The Foreign Minister of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, has confirmed that next year the German state will send 150 additional troops within the framework of KFOR in Kosovo.

During her speech at the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, Baerbock emphasized that peace in the Western Balkans "hangs by a thread".

"In the Western Balkans, peace often hangs in the balance. NATO and EU engagement go hand in hand: the EUFOR mission provides security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and KFOR does the same in Kosovo. Germany will contribute additional soldiers to KFOR,"  she said.

Meanwhile, earlier, the general secretary of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that the alliance will do whatever is possible to ensure stability in the Western Balkans.

Stoltenberg mentioned the injuries of KFOR soldiers and also the terrorist attack in Banjska.

"What we are seeing is an increase in tensions. We have seen very serious incidents of violence in Kosovo, including the attack on NATO peacekeeping troops – 93 NATO soldiers were injured, some very seriously. And we also saw the incidents in Banjska, where three people were killed in September in Kosovo. These are very serious incidents and we must stay focused on the Western Balkans.

NATO will do whatever is necessary to preserve or ensure stability in the region, as it is important not only for the Western Balkans, but also for all of Europe and NATO. We have a presence there. We work together with the European Union, the EUFOR force in Bosnia and Herzegovina. And we have a presence in Kosovo", he said.
