The former soldier of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Hasan Dakaj, was arrested yesterday by the Serbian authorities in Merdare when he was crossing the border to go to Italy.
The news was announced by lawyer Xhevdet Smakiqi and he says that he was authorized by the Dakaj family to protect the legal rights of the former KLA soldier.
He confirmed that according to the first information, he was sent to the detention center in Kurshumli.
"Today I am authorized by the Dakaj Family from Prizren to protect the legal rights of their relative Hasan Dakaj, born on 10.08.1980 from Prizren, who has already been a member of the KLA, was arrested in Merdare around 09:00 a.m. in the morning while he was traveling with his brother to Italy. The Dakaj family is in great fear and anxiety because the Serbian police Hasan Dakaj, a former member of the KLA, according to the first information, sent him to the detention center in Kushumli and may be subjected to physical torture psychic or even worse", he writes.
According to him, the Serbian police sent Hasan Dakaj to the detention center in Kurshumli, where he may be subjected to physical and mental torture or worse. Lawyer Smakiqi has asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo to take an interest in Dakaj's fate.
"As the lawyer of the Dakaj family, I make an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request through diplomatic channels the release of Hasan Dakaj and to allow him to move freely like any citizen of Kosovo without discrimination. Stop the persecution of the citizens of Kosovo by the state of Serbia, which is violating the fundamental freedom of free movement with a focus on the former members of the KLA", concludes lawyer Smakiqi.
