Power passes peacefully to the north, international diplomacy welcomes it

The new Serb mayors of four northern Kosovo municipalities took office yesterday in a quiet ceremony, including the presence of state symbols.

The event was welcomed by the American, German, British embassies and the EU Office, which considered it an important step towards stability and peaceful cooperation in the region.

The new Serb mayors of four northern Kosovo municipalities took office after a peaceful and orderly ceremony, including the presence of Kosovo state symbols. The transition was welcomed by the US Embassy, which stressed the importance of continuing peaceful cooperation in the region.

"We welcome this smooth transition and hope that peaceful cooperation will continue," the US embassy spokesperson told Express.

The incident-free transfer of power was welcomed by the European Union Office, as well as the German and British embassies.

The EU considered this step as an important advancement towards constructive engagement in the future, while the German embassy said that the event contributes to reducing tensions in the north.

The British Embassy stressed the importance of continuous communication and cooperation between municipal and central authorities and the communities they represent.

The new mayors who took office yesterday are: Milan Radojevic in North Mitrovica, Zoran Todic in Leposavic, Dragisa Milovic in Zvecan and Milos Perovic in Zubin Potok.

This transition comes after the period when Albanian mayors led these municipalities since May 2023, following the resignation of the Serb List mayors in November 2022.
